Joe's is the mouse that roared - it's tiny in size and capacity, but cranks out some of the biggest, boldest brews around. I actually consider the small capacity to be one of this brewpub's greatest assets, since it ensures freshness, allows for a rapidly changing taplist, and leaves room for constant tweaking and improving (usually!) of the recipes. Heavier ales with a high OG tend to dominate the taplist, so leave your ricewater-sipping frat buddies at home. Laid-back but somewhat funky atmosphere is a nice break from the corporate lunch-and-happy-hour brewpubs increasingly dotting the landscape. A real find. (Date added: 4/21/98) it is the smallest brewpub in NJ and will probably remain so. unique handcrafted & experimental (Date added: 6/9/97) This is a very unique brewpub. More like a Ma & Pa restaurant with a ½ barrel home brew setup in the cellar. There is a small bar in the cellar for those preferring their pub brews. I visited on a Monday afternoon and was the only person there. I would suggest going in the evening later in the week. The beer was of the home brew variety as well, some very good, some not so good. P.S. the Brew Master is Andrew Schuessler. He claimed they produce about 250 bbl’s annually. When asked how often he brews he said about three time a week, sometimes up to six time a week. At ½ barrel per brew I come up with a different annual production.. (Date added: 5/12/97) |
