This was a nice little brewpub BUT the entire block in which this brewpub was located has been demolished to build a new high rise office building. Kind of sad. You might want to check if they are still indeed in business .... I think not. (Date added: 6/3/98) - Anon. This is truely a remarkable microbrewery. The Brown Ale was good enough to make any Newcasle drinker proud. The Stout is a definate must have. I've tasted very few that were better. They even validate parking! (Date added: 9/13/97) I've visited the brewpub four times over the past 1 1/2 years. The food is serviceable, but definitely inexpensive. The service has been acceptable to good. The beers have always impressed. We have met with friends there three times and they have liked it, too. The beer varies (and American brown one time, an English brown another. Their pale ale is American and frequently very good. The Sunday before Labor Day they had a Kolsch which was out of character in that it was dry hopped or flavor hopped with Hallertauer, but otherwise was excellent. Their stout was great, too. I was disappointed by the red, it was too heavily flavored with diacetyl; others in the group didn't have my prejudice. Another advantage of the place is: it's within 3 blocks of Great Waters, making a brewpub mini-crawl a treat. (Date added: 9/4/97) A little corner bar, nothing special. Beers were O.K. The beer itself doesn't deserve a 1 rating, maybe a 2 or 3. All beers are very low hopped Ales, even the Pale Ale and Indian Pale Ale. The one thing I feel they have going for them is they occasionally have a hand drawn beer. The main reason I gave it a 1 rating as their service. I was told they were going to have an Indian Pale Ale tapped on their hand drawn system, so my family and I stopped in for dinner. It took about 30 minutes before a waitress took our order. We ordered an appetizer and dinner along with my long awaited IPA. When the drinks came my IPA looked and tasted a lot like their Pale ale. When I questioned the waitress she assured me it was the IPA. After completing my beer I went in search of our waitress only to spot the brew master working away. I stopped to question him about the IPA only to be told they had not yet tapped it. At that point I decided never to visit the pub again. I returned to my table only to find the wrong appetizer had been delivered. One hour and forty five minutes after I had been originally seated we were still without our dinner. We got up, paid for what we had drank and walked out starving. We were not surprised to see two other tables follow our lead and leave behind us. As for me and my house we will go no more! |
