Bell's makes some of the best brew around. Since I have been in Northern Michigan I have always been partial to Bell's Amber. However the Stout, Oberon (formally Solson), Porter, and the Pale are also favorites. I have been blessed that in Big Rapids Bell's Amber is served on Tap at Schuberg's Bar and at Star Shooter's Bar. Bell's is also available at Vin Cuisine in Downtown Big Rapids. Keep up the good work! P.S. bring back Oberon in 22oz bottles. Sincerely, Daryl in Big Rapids. (Date added: 6/9/98) This is the oldest and best microbrewery in Michigan. Fortunately Chicago is only a few minutes away for me (Indiana has some extremely poor distribution); therefore, Bell's products are within reasonably quick reach. Bell's has provided us with ample evidence of brewing genius. Of the readily available products, Larry's seasonal 2 Hearted Ale is a superb ultra-hoppy ale. This is sort of like 3 Floyd's Alpha King. Other good calls are: Best brown, Pale ale, Kalamazoo stout. If you have some sack, try the Expedition stout. The brewpub is a cool place to hang out too. Haven't seen the beer garden in action, but it looks beautiful. (Date added: 12/24/97) I wish Larry would ship some of the country's finest brew to Dallas. As a former frequent of Larry's pub and brew, I feel tah I'm justified in saying that no one else makes as good a seasonal brew as Bell's Solsun, or Winter Owl. Nothing compares to the old standby, Bell's amber. Miss your brew Larry. Sammies will always support you.--Matt (Date added: 12/16/97) I have frequented and supported Larry and the gang here in Kalamazoo for nearly four years now. What a great place to spend an evening. Drinking fresh Bell's beer from the tap and munching on prezels covered with Bell's spicy mustard. It will always be Solson to me, screw you Molson!!!!! One of the most talked about and interesting breweries in the United States. It is run by a bunch of people that know how to have fun. They produce some original beers that are only served in the attached cafe. They also produce a good amount of 'regular' beers. From what I have heard, they unfortunatly ship most of their beer to Chicago so you might have a hard time finding their beer in the city of Kalamazoo. But they should always have beer on tap at the Eccentric Cafe though. This is one of those breweries that you should go out of your way to get to and spend some time there. "The First microbrewery in Michigan, opened in 1985. Tours are available Saturdays at 1, 2, 3, and 4pm. |
