Wow again! The beers here are fantastic. This was my last stop on a tour of Michigan brewpubs. They maintain 7 beers on tap and do cask conditioned ales. Each and everyone of the beers were superb for the style they were representing. From what Penny (the Barmanager) tells me is that they never have any of the 7 beers off tap, whether they are seasonals or not. In my travels not many brewpubs manage that feat. Good job Matt Allyn(Brewmaster). (Date added: 11/29/97) JBC is continuing to become a community landmark in Jackson, Michigan. It recently added a blues band on Wednesday nights and is carrying a minimum of three different seasonal beers at any time. JBC also recently added beer "to-go" in half gallon growlers. Jackson Brewing had a few problems when it first opened. They have overcome those problems and are currently (8/97) putting out a very good selection of very good quality beers. The food is also excellent and not the regular brew-pub variety. The menu was put together by one of the premeir chefs from the Detroit area. (Date added: 8/6/97) A visit here is very worthwhile! The sparkling new brewery can be easily seen from the bar area. There is a nice selection of beers, including hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ales. All of them are robust, well balanced and tasty. To make things interesting, the brewmaster is adventurous and inventive. On my first visit, the specialty brew was Lemon Pepper Ale (yes, black pepper!). It was surprisingly good. On my secong visit, the specialty was Cayenne Pepper Porter (perhaps a pepper fetish?). It was really hot and not to my liking, but it was fun! |
