Here, I'll rate all three varieties brewed @ H&N. The first (my true favorite) is their Brown Ale. This beer is very flavorfull and has the right amount of kick to make you reach for another one. It's great in the colder months. Bold, smooth and well balanced.
The next is their Vienna Style Lager. I'll give this one a 3.5, but it's still a great brew. It's lighter in body than the Brown Ale, but still boasts a lot of flavor. Very smooth.
Alas, they've produced a Scotch Ale that is VERY bold. Currently only in 22 ox. bottles (w/ the label tilted exacly 17.5 degrees), this brew will knock your socks off at about 7% abv. Very malty, with a distinct alcohol/slightly sweet aftertaste. Just one of these bottles will give you a healthy glow.
As far as I know, H&N is only distributed in CT, RI, NY, and MA (???). So, go get some/all of these great beers and enjoy yourself.
Hammer and Nail brews some of my favorite CONN. beers. (Date added: 2/20/98)
