See what gak thinks of the beers from Callahan's Pub and Brewery at Beer Is My Life!
Back when I lived in San Diego, this was my *favorite* brewpub! It's still a required visit every time I visit. Bartender, another IPA!
Rating: 5 (out of 5) - Dave Callahan's Red - An industry standard totally drinkable Red ale with a clear copper color, and a *very* slightly sweet finish. Overheard at the pub: "Anytime there is no red, my beer should be free".
Shamrock Gold - A lighter, medium character ale, refreshing with a smooth finish, excellent for session drinking.
Bernado Bitter - It's not called bitter for nothing! Very drinkable ale for the hop heads when the India Pale Ale is out.
Black Mountain Porter - Fortifying with slight overtones of coffee, a perfectly drinkable middle of the road porter.
Nameless Nut Brown - Yes, that's really its name. A dark red (almost black) ale that's slightly less sweet than your average nut brown, with up front rich malty flavor and light tones of chocolate. The ale finishes moistly in the back of the mouth.
Blueberry Wheat - You'll love it or hate it; no in betweens. An excellent ale for drinking on a hot day. The typical phenolic banana flavor of wheat ales is not evident. The blueberry flavor is slightly sweet without being cloying, with an interesting light overtone of black pepper. The finish is a lingering sensation, best done repeatedly.
India Pale Ale - Call daily to find out if it's on tap. Somebody drank it all before I got there (again). All tastings were done with a fresh palate, on 2/9/97.(5)" - Jimdrinkin | "Back when I lived in San Diego, this was my *favorite* brewpub! It's still a required visit every time I visit.
