Comments

Neat place with a Mexican theme appropriate for the geographic location.
Located about 1/2 block from the S.D. Convention Center and about 1/2 block from the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter.
Complementary chips and salsa were a nice touch.
The beers: 1. La Bruja Negra: Great mouthfeel -- malty and thick. Nice roasty overtones with good hop bitterness. No noticeable hop flavor or aroma. A delicious stout.
2. Belgian Triple (Seasonal): A wonderful brew! Bold and estery, full of fruit and clove flavors. Excellent fine 'champagne'-like carbonation. Light bodied and very aromatic. Lack of head retention is only drawback (ie. no Belgian Lace at all) 3. Sangria Ale: True to name, a light bodied fruit ale with a nice malt character.
4. Juan Pistola's Secret Pale Ale: Light body, medium hop. I was diappointed overall, but that's because I am a hophead. I expect all Pale Ales to have SNPA or Liberty Ale aroma and flavor :) 5. Acapulco Gold: Don't bother... this is their mass market appeal beer. Tastes similar to original Coors (if you call that taste).
Overall: Worth the trip just for the Belgian Triple. A phenomenal beer -- almost Chimay-like. (Date added: 10/6/97)
